Performing The Electric Setar
Mahmood Schricker
Farhang Foundation welcomes Mahmood Schricker performing an electric setar made by Behrad Gorangni, using two effects which are added to the setar, one is the e-bow and the other one is a reverse delay effect. The piece performed is "Sabz Dar Sabz" composed by master Dariush Talai, with special visual effects corresponding to the music by Tormoz.
About Mahmood Schricker
Iranian born Mahmood Schricker immigrated to Canada at the age of 16. After receiving his MA in ethnomusicology from the York University he started focusing on his solo work. By transforming his setar into an electric instrument, Schricker made it possible to play setar (a very quiet instrument) in electronic music environments. He is dedicated to creating new sounds and has focused on integrating minimal ambient and dub sounds with Persian melodies. His critically acclaimed 2012 debut album "Null" was positively reviewed by notable publications such as Songlines Magazine. His second album El Muerte was released in 2018 and he has numerous compositions for films (Radio Dreams, Through the Breeze) and commercials (Nike: Win in any condition, Helena Christensen Vs. Magazine).
