Zan: Voices of Freedom
Featuring
Niaz Nawab
On April 16, 2023, a remarkable event unfolded as Farhang Foundation and the Alex Theatre Performing Arts Center came together to honor and celebrate the voices of Iranian women in ZAN: VOICES OF FREEDOM. This unforgettable evening featured an extraordinary performance by the talented artist, NIAZ NAWAB, who captivated the audience with her hit single حق (Right).
"We speak no ill and covet wrongs not,
In others' clothes we dye our own in darker plot.
The faults of rich and poor, in more or less, are ill,
Bad deeds are best undone, in our own counsel still.
Heaven breaks the ship of masters in their art,
Better not rely on this sea so apart.
Let's journey through the world with watchers' eyes,
Think not of dark steeds and saddles of disguise.
If envy speaks ill and a friend feels the sting,
Be at ease, to foolish words we do not cling.
Hafez, if a foe errs in speech, we'll not hold a grudge,
And if truth be told, against the right, we do not judge.”
- Hafez
Lyrics by Hafez, Music composed by Niaz Nawab
Performance produced by Erwin Khachikian
