About Mohammad Gharipour
Mohammad Gharipour is Professor and Chair of the Department of Built Environment Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore, USA. He obtained his PhD in architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology, USA and his Master of Architecture at the University of Tehran, Iran. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses and design studios at six universities, including Maryland Institute College of Art, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and National University of Singapore. He has received prestigious awards and grants from several organizations including the Society of Architectural Historians, National Endowment in Humanities, Fulbright-Hays, Foundation for Landscape Studies, Council of Educators of Landscape Architecture, American Institute of Architects, Fulbright, and National Institute of Health. In addition to organizing and chairing more than thirty panels and conferences and publishing more than 140 papers, encyclopedia entries, and reviews, he has authored, edited, and co-edited thirteen books including Persian Gardens and Pavilions (I.B. Tauris, 2013), Historiography of Persian Architecture (Routledge, 2015), Synagogues in the Islamic World (Edinburgh University Press, 2017), and Health and Architecture (Bloomsbury, 2021). Dr. Gharipour is the director and founding editor of the award-winning International Journal of Islamic Architecture (IJIA) and the co-founder of the Epidemic Urbanism Initiative.
